Power Standards

What are Power Standards?

Power standards are the learning goals that matter the most and are critical for students to achieve prior to completing their courses or grade. These standards do not represent the total curriculum, but indicate the essential learning outcomes for all students.

Student mastery of the standards is measured through the Minnesota Comprehensive Asssessments Standardized tests (MCA's) and classroom assessments.

Power assessments are written from the students point of view so students can see what it is that they need to know.

The power standards are also a resource for parents and others as a way to aide their student as they work towards achieving the essental skills and content of each course or grade level.

Power standards are a living document and are constantly being edited, ammended and changed to meet new requirements as courses work evolves throughout the school year.
